We offer Stand-Up Paddle boarding (SUP) as one of our activities included with your Surf Vacation. Costa Rica Surf Adventures was one of the first Surf Companies to introduce Paddle Boarding to Costa Rica. Stand-Up Paddle boarding is an ancient form of surfing that can be traced back early Polynesia. It's most recent history dates back to the 1940's when the beach boys (surf instructors) on Waikiki beach used to stand up and paddle out to the break using a one bladed paddle. As time moved on board designs and fashions changed, the paddle was all but lost in the history of surfing. These days surfers are rediscovering the benefits of the paddle board. Try your hand at this new sport with a paddle board surf lesson.

Come try the newest surf craze, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUP). This is a great way to exercise your core muscles and stay fit on flatter days or surf from a slightly different perspective using a paddle as a rudder. Our lessons are geared to get you paddling around correctly, focusing on body posture, proper paddling technique, correct muscle movements and balance. Timing, catching waves and steering with the paddle are also discussed. You will be ruling it on a SUP in no time with our expert instruction!

All paddle surf equipment is provided. You'll learn everything you need to know to paddle proficiently and safely! Stand Up Paddle Surfing provides an intense full-body workout that builds strength in the body's core muscle groups. Instructors are expert surfers who instruct and monitor you in the water; they are encouraging and vary their teaching methods for different people.

On the sand, you'll learn how to stand up, balance using careful foot placement, how to hold your paddle, and slow down or speed up with gentle weight shifts. After a few practice exercises close to shore, you'll paddle out to the surf zone.

Your instructor paddles with you at your pace. The long, flat board gives you a sturdy base of support and control in the water. Once you've mastered the basics, you'll be addicted to the pleasures of Paddle Surfing like a pro.
