We had such an amazing time.. the whole trip was a great experience for both of us. Learning how to surf with the boys was the best part of the whole trip. They were very patient and very thorough with teaching us exactly what to do. They were so precise in telling us exactly when to do what we needed to do to be a successful surfer. They took us to all the best places at the right times and made it a lot of fun. We definitely fell in love with the ocean, the surroundings, the people, the food, everything. I highly recommend this trip with Costa Rica Surf Adventures to anyone. People that are wanting to learn, beginners, anyone. The worst part of the trip is when we had to pack up and go home :( I would definitely do it again next year!

The Surf Adventures Camp vacation was the best vacation my son and I have ever had. The surf instructors Cesar, Steven and several others were exceptionally thorough teachers and provided very clear explanations for everything (especially safety) we needed to know….. whether it be surfing, ATV or Zip Lines etc. Without Cesar and Steven, I don't believe the experience would have been as fun. They demonstrate a genuine joy and happiness that transcends to all the guests. We felt like we'd known them all our lives! We will be back!

We had a wonderful time in Tamarindo with you guys!!
Everything was perfect! The Diria resort was a great choice. Staying in the ocean view room was a real pleasure and watching the sunrise and the sunset from the beach was fabulous.

Surfing everyday with Caesar and Steven was the best surfing experience we ever had. They are amazing coaches. They basically re-taught us surfing, from paddling to choosing the right wave for take-off and riding the waves with more confidence and determination. They corrected many of our bad habits.
We have progressed more in 1 week of surfing with them than we ever had since we started surfing.

We also had a great time during the ATV tour with Steven; that was a lot of fun!! Overall, the atmosphere within the group was excellent! We are already planning on going back in a few months with more friends. I will definitely recommend booking a surf trip with you guys to anyone who wants to learn how to surf or who wants to improve his/her surfing techniques.

Gary & Chino (Roberto),

After searching the Internet and reading testimonials, I decided to go with Costa Rica Surf Adventures. I could not have made a better choice. The two weeks I spent at the El Diria in July 2011 were all time. The crew that included Walter, Shaggy, Cesar, Victor, both Williams, and Chino too, could not have been nicer or more accommodating; I felt like I was hanging out with old friends. Their knowledge of the area was invaluable in picking the right break for each day. At my favorite spot, which I will not name, I caught the biggest and best waves (just rights thank-you) I have ever ridden.

Although I went on this trip alone, I met some great people both weeks through CRSA and always had people to go out to dinner and hang with.

My son and I, on the spur of the moment, decided to go to Costa Rica and surf. He found your web site, we booked over the phone, and flew down the following week. We had a blast! The accommodations at the "Diria" were fabulous and the resort is just beautiful. I can't say enough about the surf instructors. William, Walter and Cesar were just unbelievable. They really worked hard to make our trip a success. They were always on time, pleasant and fun to be with, and extremely patient with us. The activities were also a great time. We did the ATV tour, catamaran and the Zip-line. My son and I would go back in a heartbeat and we will. PURA VIDA!!

We had a great time. I weigh 255lbs and was up surfing on the first day and improved every day after that. The staff was great and provided great instruction. The hotel was great as well, it was right on the beach and in the center of town. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our trip from the surfing to the yoga and additional activities of horse back riding and canopy zip lines. We have already recommended Costa Rica Surf Adventures to our friends and plan on coming back again. My girlfriend Paula and I had the greatest time while at CR Surf Adventures !! Her and I are on different levels of surfing, and we were concerned that this could conflict on our fun. However the staff, Roberto (Chino), Cesar, William, Victor, and Shaggy made it all so accommodating. They took us to the hot spots and stayed with us for encouragement the entire time. The ATV tour, and Sunset cruise were phenomenal !!

I had never surfed before and thoroughly enjoyed it. I almost didn't want to continue after my first day of surfing as I was nervous, but am so glad that I PUSHED myself (with the help from Chino as well). I was loving it by the end and was sad to go. Hi Gary,

We want to thank you, Chino, and Cesar for a great trip! Our friend Bill surfed with CR Surf Adventures in December. When he got back to the U.S. he was raving about what a great time he had. My wife Amy always wanted to try surfing, so she felt that your company and Costa Rica might provide the outlet for her goal. We decided to make the trip and talked Bill into coming again (that wasn't hard to do). We're so happy we decided on the adventure.

Everything about our surf vacation in Costa Rica was terrific. From the moment we landed at the airport to the moment we left, we felt relaxed and competently taken care of by CR Surf Adventures. Most important is the fact that Cesar is a great instructor. He’s very skilled and patient. He was able to give us great instruction before we got started and then he continued to give us the feedback we needed throughout the week. He was also a great source of information on Costa Rican culture. We didn't expect to learn so much in such a short amount of time. We love that we got to surf at three different beaches that were all beautiful in different ways. The waves were great. Cesar was waiting for us when we landed and he was always on time to pick us up for surfing.

The hotel and staff were also outstanding and the food incredible. My wife is a marathon runner, and I work out regularly, but nothing beat the workout of surfing in the morning and having great breakfast back at the hotel. Our room was very close to the beach and we got to see terrific sunsets. We truly had a great experience and it’s hard to put into words just how much fun we had. We can't wait to come back, hopefully later this year. We can't stop thinking about our time in Costa Rica.

My two friends and I had planed to travel to other parts of Costa Rica after our surf camp; however, we ended up enjoying our time in Tamarindo so much that we stayed there for the rest of the trip. The town of Tamarindo is filled of good vibes- surf friendly atmosphere and wonderful locals. In addition, we had a fabulous surfing experience with our surf instructors: Cesar, Chino, and Williams. They all were friendly, easy-going, eager to work with us and definitely knew how to show us a good time! Additionally, I was very impressed by Chino because he also wanted to learn sign language in order to communicate with us better which I truly appreciate the effort he made… I want to thank you all for the wonderful surfing experience and for making us all feel at home! We had a chance to get away as a married couple of 5 years. With our 2 year old safely at home with Grandma, we set out to find an adventure that we would both find fun, exciting, and relaxing. Our interests are surfing and yoga, and CR Adventures offered both. Once we booked our trip, Gary answered any questions we had, sent a video to get us excited, and we felt prepared for our adventure. We had no idea how awesome it was going to be! We were picked up at the airport, had dinner, and were dropped off at a beautiful hotel.

We loved our accommodations, and could brag about the pool, ocean front views, food, and friendly staff- but then we were in for even more when we went on our first surf adventure. Brian went off to a more advanced surf, while I was off with the beginners. With instruction and encouragement, I caught a wave! Brian and I met for breakfast and were stoked about the amazing waves, beautiful warm water, and friendly staff that acted more like friends. In the evenings we were off to yoga. The instructor, Mariel, was amazing. I enjoy yoga, and was challenged while advancing my skill and technique. The town was so easy to get around and there were great restaurants and shops. We also enjoyed added activities such as Zip Line - which was unbelievable! Horse back riding- totally romantic, and stand up paddle surfing which was unique and equally amazing.

Everything about the trip was great. We tell our friends all the time that it was one of the best get -aways we have been on. We were able to experience a new adventure, make unforgettable memories, while relaxing in a beautiful country surrounded by warm and friendly people!

I recently spent about 9 days in Tamarindo under the umbrella of your package. Everyone on your team was over the top with regards to service from the moment I was picked up a the airport to when Chino droped me off. The Diria hotel was a great choice as well with good food and impeccable service as well.

I mentioned that I wanted a great surf experience when we spoke and your team provided just that. The waves were great and the instructors were courteous, helpful, and seemed to take great pleasure in what they do. Kudos to all! I have to give Chino extra praise as he made the trip special and made sure that every need that I had was taken care of with great expedience.

I have traveled quite a bit over the years but I have never been to a place where the people were so gracious and truly nice. Dear Gary,

My husband and I have wanted to go surfing in Costa Rica since we first learned to surf 5 years ago. This year I was determined to go, with or without him. Well long story short, I left my husband at home and went with my friend Ashley over spring break. Ashley and I are both teachers and she had never surfed before. Since it had been several years from the time I was last on a board we both signed up for the beginners group. We were so excited for our trip and this excitement only went away as we were being driven back to the airport to return to our “real lives”. We didn't want to leave Costa Rica or the new friends we made there. I can truly say this was the best vacation I've ever been on! All of the instructors are so nice, patient, and entertaining. You can't help but have an amazing time when you are around such great people who really love their job.
The one-on-one attention we got during our surf lessons catered to our different levels. Chino, Cesar, and William pushed us to improve each day. This attention helped me become a better surfer and got my friend hooked. I have to say THANK YOU to Chino. You really pushed me and gave me the confidence to take the biggest waves I've ever surfed. I can't wait to come back!

At 62 years old, I decided that it was very much a now or never decision to plan a lifelong dream of a surf trip to Costa Rica. Coming from Northern California, I was used to the head to toe wetsuit and ice cream headaches from the cold water. The image of warm water, offshore breezes and perfectly sculpted waves was the draw of Costa Rica. After a considerable amount of web surfing, I made the decision to go with a ten day package through Costa Rica Surf Adventures. The program was absolutely flawless, from beginning to end. Gary was very helpful in taking my reservation and was always readily accessible by phone when questions came up. When I cleared customs at the airport in Liberia, Jose was there with a big smile holding a sign with my name for the shuttle ride to Tamarindo. The accommodations at the beachside Hotel Diria could not have been nicer and the massive buffet breakfast kept me going all day long. Steven and Cesar were terrific surf guides/instructors and their patient encouragement helped me improve considerably during my stay. I had the good fortune to experience good waves and uncrowded conditions on trips to both Ollie’s Point and Witch’s Rock, which were the high point of the trip for me. Having these days documented by the photography of Raffa and Jonathan was the icing on the cake, and a great souvenir for my wall back home. It was so reassuring to be traveling around with a crew who were clearly respected by the local community. The dinner out the last night of the trip with Roberto (Chino) and Steven was bittersweet. I was in a wonderful country with what had become very good friends, and it truly felt like I was leaving part of my family. Back home in the States, I find myself daydreaming about this wonderful trip and trying to figure out how to get back sometime in the future. For a true experience of Costa Rica’s Pura Vida, you simply can’t go wrong with Costa Rica Surf Adventures. Be ready for the time of your life.

Hey Gary,

From the moment we arrived in Tamarindo, we knew we were in for an adventure. We were greeted at the airport by smiling Jose as we began the drive to our hotel. In the morning we met some of the guys, who took us out for our first day of surfing. We received a lot of encouragement and instruction and were up on our first few waves...and decided we were in love with surfing.

Roberto, Steven, Raphael, and Cesar all took part in getting us to surf the best we could. Whether it was screaming for us to paddle our hearts out to catch a wave, to sitting in the ocean for a while waiting for a wave, the guys were always positive, fun and friendly. We loved joking around with them (especially Steven and Roberto!) and their laid back attitude, but also appreciated their contagious passion for surfing. They showed us all the best places to eat and go out in Tamarindo, and even took us out for a traditional Costa Rican lunch (very yummy!!). They also picked us up in the mornings in the CRSA Landrover if we didn't want to meet them at the beach, and drove us to breakfast or back to our hotels after surf lessons with them. Cesar was always happy to drive us and Roberto organized our activities, no problem. By the end of the week, we were much more comfortable on our surf boards. The guys adapted to our level of surfing and pushed us to improve the skills we had learned and become better surfers.

Nothing but good memories, thanks for an AMAZING trip. We can't wait to get back out on a surf board (instead of snowboards...).

I wanted to thank everyone at CRSA for making it possible for me to have the greatest experience of my life. The first person I met from CRSA was "Jose", at the airport in Liberia, CR. When I first saw Jose and the smile on his face I felt very reassured, and for some reason very safe. Now keep in mind this is my first trip outside of the US as well as traveling alone for 2 weeks. The 45-60 minute drive from the airport with Jose was so much fun. I tried to speak a little Spanish and was butchering the language, but it didn't matter, Jose was more than happy to help educate me. What I will always remember about Jose was how much he smiled and how happy he was and is. This was the beginning of my eyes opening up....Thank you, Jose.

Surf camp the next morning was early in the am, but no problem because that is why you come here. To Surf your Brains Out... The next morning I got to meet my surf instructors: Cesar, Stephen, Chino, as well as the photographer, Rafael. These three guys are awesome...It's kinda like they are brothers from another mother. I got picked up by one of CRSA's sweet Land Rover in the morning and the trip started. After having knee surgery 2 1/2 weeks before leaving the US, I was a bit nervous about my knee holding up but there are no worries or problems with these guys, and they all made sure that I was taken care of throughout the whole trip. Cesar and Stephen were very patient with me and my knee, and were better instructors than I had imagined. They taught us the basics of surfing, safety, awareness of other surfers, breathing techniques, paddling out, taking a wave that is going to crash on, etc. And if you want the best fuel for surfing, these guys know where to get it. The restaurant they took us to a few times was called "Soda las Palmas in Villareal. Huge plate of food for real cheap and the best, freshest, glass of Passion Fruit Juice. When we weren't surfing we did the Zip Line Tour and the guys took us on an awesome Quad trip through out the jungle (I highly recommend). CRSA picked a great group of instructors that are very happy, awesome surfers, and more than willing to help and take care of you. Thank you Cesar, Stephen, Rafael, and Chino for everything, you guys helped change my life more than you can ever imagine.

I am sitting here in Toronto, today’s temperature is – 6 degrees Celsius, it has been snowing up north for about 3 days now, with a total of over 80 centimeters (36 inches) received in the ski areas, and the ski & snowboard season is upon us…………….but to be perfectly honest, I would rather be surfing and hanging out with the crew in Tamarindo.

From my first phone call to Gary inquiring on what Costa Rica Surf Adventure’s was all about, to receiving the help I needed to get everything booked was carried out with the up most professionalism, the explanation of the services, accommodations and area, all allowed me to make an informed decision. As I had explained to Gary when we where talking, that it being Thursday, I was hoping to be in Tamarindo Saturday, and Gary took care of all the details and made it happen.

I was met at the airport by Jose in the infamous CRSA Range Rover, and my week of adventure in Costa Rica had begun, on the drive from the airport Jose was a welcoming ambassador to CRSA and Tamarindo, his introduction to the area was informative and friendly, I was made to feel as if I where a friend coming to visit from a long time away, not a tourist, which, as I came to understand over the week in Tamarindo, was how everyone made you feel, as if you had been there before and had just been away to work, and was now home to kick back, enjoy your friends, food, fun and surf.

Sunday morning I was met outside the Vista Villas by the instructor crew, Cesar, Steven, and Raphael again in the Rover, and we where off to surf, I was wondering how It would go, although I have skied most of my life, I had never attempted to surf, for that matter I had never even held a surf board in my hands until that morning unloading it from the truck, so I was pretty sure Cesar and Steven had their work cut out to get this frosty white dude up on a surf board……….

All I can say is that the instruction was phenomenal, they had me up and surfing the first morning, the education I was given on the board, stance, paddling, and the all important jump, was in depth and constant, with every success they added a new challenge so that my progression was constant and confident. Being immersed in that environment was amazing, with Cesar’s & Steven’s coaching I was able to progress through the entire week, by the final 2 days, they had me out catching my own waves, reading some breaks, and having an overall understanding of what the sport of surfing is, or should I say what a surfing life can be “Pura Vida” {Perfect Life}.

This letter started as a testimonial to Costa Rica Surf Adventures, but has changed into something more of a thank you and recommendation to anyone, if you are looking to learn how to surf, and more importantly looking to learn what a life of surfing could be, than these are the people to help you find it, I was amazed at the entire week, from the unbelievable beaches, food, people, to the phenomenal instruction, to hanging out with the crew, going for dinners, and just chillin after a great day of surfing.

I teach and instruct for a living in my chosen profession, but very seldom have I had the opportunity to be involved with such generous, phenomenally talented and gracious professionals, most importantly was the amount that I was taught and how I was taught. Not only did I receive a strong foundation in the technical aspect of surfing, and Tamarindo’s incredible beaches and natural beauty, but you showed me how important it is to take the time to enjoy it with friends, to embrace life, to laugh, relax, to float on a board in the sea with only the thought of catching the next wave, thanks Cesar & Steven.

Just wanted to write to say that both Natalia and I were extremely extremely happy with the level of professionalism and service we received on the Surf and Yoga package we booked with CR Surf Adventures. The accommodations were AMAZING!!...both in Tamarindo and Nosara. The surf instructors were soo nice and patient and kept encouraging us no matter how much we struggled at times! All 4 of them are top notch...Luis, Roberto, Cesar, and Stephen. Cesar was our driver from Tamarindo to Nosara and even took us to the grocery store to pick up snacks and drove us to some local restaurants in Nosara...the whole experience was wonderful! Also, not to forget the yoga instructors which were also very good and challenged all different skill levels...we were especially impressed with the outdoor Yoga Institute in Nosara..it was sooo beautiful and peaceful!!

I will definitely recommend your company to all my friends who are planning a similar trip. I have also posted pics on my facebook profile which has the company web site so hopefully you will get some referrals.

We just wanted to thank you guys for providing our group with another great trip to Costa Rica. We have been going to Costa Rica for many years and have always gone to different spots, for waves and fun, however we have use Costa Rica Surf Adventures for back to back trips now. Doug and I talked about what a great time that we had in 2009 with my son Stuart and Chino on our first trip with your company, and we worried that it would be like trying to catch lighting in a bottle to match the 2009 trip. But it comes as no big surprise that Costa Rica Surf Adventures, steps up to the challenge and delivers another great trip, for everyone in our group. We can not wait to make a return trip, and will be booking with you guys again. Stuart is still in high school and that limits our trips to his holiday breaks, but Doug and his family are already to visit again. Chino, thank you again for the friendship that you share with us on our visits, and making all our days in Costa Rica such a great time.

Would you like to know how to make three grown women cry? Send them off to Costa Rica for a one week CRSA trip - make sure they have the time of their lives – then send them back home back to reality!

Hands down, this trip far exceeded any expectations we had. The surf lessons were one-on-one and loaded with constructive feedback and encouragement from the instructors. All of our activities were planned and organized so that we could make the most of our days. Chino, Cesar, Steven and Luis did everything to ensure we had an awesome time, felt safe and comfortable, both in the water and around town. They are a solid team of instructors and an asset to CRSA. They have the customers best interest at heart and the trip would not have been the same without them.

We arrived as three best friends, and made so many more during our stay. We miss everyone are already planning our next trip back! Until then…puravida.
